As you approach graduation and begin the transition to your new career, what do you feel will be the biggest obstacle you will face after graduation? Please comment below with your feelings and thoughts.
LeSha As I approach graduation I feel my biggest challenge will be trying to get used to not doing constant homework and also finding "that job". After being here for three years straight and doing homework literally every day of the week for hours at a time had had me in work mode for a long time. Even when I'm on breaks from school I find it hard to really take a break. In addition to that I am a little fearful of the job industry. I've been hearing different things from different people where jobs are concerned. I believe there are plenty of opportunities, however I'm not sure how easy it will be to get into them. I know that sales in one of the easiest to get into but I'm not looking to work in the sales department. I also know that sometimes companies get comfortable with the staff they already have so I'm going to have to bring my A game to make sure that they realize fresh and new can be a good thing. Outside of those two things, I'm feeling pretty good about graduating.
I believe the biggest obstacle I will face is my business start up. Statistically, most businesses fail within the first year or so of startup. This is because of a number of reasons, but regardless a lot of things are going against you. It’s difficult to make your name pop when you are one little person in the sea of professionals. I am confident with an effective marketing strategy, branding and customer satisfaction my company will survive. A secondary obstacle that could potentially drown my company is my energy. In order for a startup company to thrive it needs energy, optimism, dedication and a lot of work. After 4 years of a college education with no major breaks other than the standards, I feel very worn out and exhausted. I don’t plan to give up or break anytime soon, but the fuel gauge is tipping towards the latter half. On the other hand, finally graduating could supercharge my motivation even more. I won’t fully know until the day comes, but I have positive feelings towards my future.
What is my biggest challenge after Graduation? Get a JOB!! I would say that definitely finding work will be my biggest challenge. I also am going to have a challenge networking-which I have done a lot over the last 2 years, but I certainly do not know everyone. I think another challenge is going to be converting from school life to working full time. I haven’t worked full time since 2009 when I finished with the military. I mean school has been full time and I guess if you count class time with homework time I have still put in the hours but they have not been on a regular basis. I think I will look forward to just having to go to work and not have homework when I get home. So I will have to find a job with no homework because I definitely need a break from that stuff!!
The biggest obstacle I feel that I would face is establishing enough clientele to survive financially. I am planning to pursue fashion photography. Indy's fashion market is still very small and extremely dominated by the creatives before us. Realistically I do not see myself being able to thrive here financially w/out some other source of great income. That's why I have decided to pursue another degree.
My biggest obstacle in graduation is finding a job here in Indiana. We are told from day one to not get comfortable in the state. Go to California, go to Vancouver, go to Texas ... but I not only want to stay here, I have to stay here. I like the job I have now.. but I want to do something more.
