  1. I do believe that internships are important. They provide so many benefits and learning experiences. They teach you how to meet a deadline, the difference between school and actual work experience. They have so much value it would be silly not to take on an internship. Another benefit is that you could possibly end up working full time for the company that you are interning for if they end up liking you!

I am passionate about the creativity of my field. We get to make literally anything you can dream of, and bring it to life. That is the coolest aspect of the animation world. I am driven by just this fact alone. The ability to do virtually anything that comes to mind is a very inspiration source for me.

  2. I think Internships are the best learning opportunity that we can get. The teachers here will make it so we know a little of what to expect once we get out into the industry, but how better to learn than actually being in the industry? In an Internship, you have a real boss with real deadlines and real colleagues. Only there, you have a buffer so you're not immediately fired if you screw up. It's the perfect set of training wheels. Plus, if it's a good fit, you could end up getting hired full time once your internship is over.

The area I'm most passionate about is seeing my imagination come to life on paper or a computer. I'm sure this is the same for many people who go into the field of animation whether they're concept artists or riggers. Every little kid wishes that their imaginary friends were real and they could talk with them.. well in my world, they can- and that is unbelievably awesome.

  3. I feel that internships are very important, due to the amount of knowledge and experience you receive. It allows you to glimpse the reality of the industry and prepare for it, rather than hearing of it in the classroom. Internships offer you on the job experience and skill refinement you need, but offer a safety net if you mess up initially. Lastly the company you interned for may hire you after you’ve completed the internship if you’ve proven to be a good worker and them like you, and in the event they don’t immediately hire you that are still a contact within your network you have. That’s including the individuals within the company that you’ve worked with.
I am passionate about the power of creation, from thought to reality. To see something physically manifest before your eyes and knowing that you are the reason it exists. Its great feeling to look upon something and despite all the flaws you see in it, know that you created it might spark an idea within someone else. To be able to build entire worlds, create species, races, and cultures, to dream up tomorrow’s next technology or great story. That is what I am passionate about.

  4. I think it is very important to do an internship. In my case I wasn’t sure which side of Interior Design I wanted to do. I did my internship at a company that only did commercial design. This made me realize I do not want to do only commercial design but I did like it. I missed the residential side of things. If I wouldn’t have gotten out there and did this experience I may have taken a job straight out of school that I would have ended up not liking. I think most companies give you someone to train with. In the design firms there are colleagues for you to look up too and are there as kind of team leaders for you to ask questions too without fear of penalty. I think more companies should have mentors and if they don’t a student should seek one out. My passion of study is space planning and drafting. I like to create the spaces that are going to be built. I don’t necessarily want to pick out finishes or accessories. That stuff is easy. What drives me is, I think of all the jacked up places that people live and I want to help create a more sustainable and eco-friendly environments to live in.

  5. I think internships are important because its a great way to network with professionals. Its also a good way to gain experience and expand your learning. I think regardless of an internship or not its always a good idea to network outside who you already know and gain more mentors.
I am passionate about making things come to life through creativity and imagination. I think its awesome how we are able to bring people into a world they imagined and get them to see things in different perspectives. As long as you can dream it you can create it.

    1. Do you feel that it is important for everyone entering your career to participate in an internship?
I feel that it is important that everyone participates in an internship. I think AI tries to prepare you the best way they can so that you can get the basics and function in a job, however there’s no way to gain true experience until you have worked in the industry. It’s very hard to gauge how each company will run and there’s no way for them to team all the ways to run and function in the industry. I also think it’s a great way to showcase your talent if allowed and possibly land you a job through your internship. Even if you weren’t necessarily what they needed or were looking for at the time, they can open the doors to other companies.
Should companies provide mentors for new employees or should new workers seek out their own mentors?
Honestly I think both are great. There may be some employers that may hear of a student that they may be interested in, but since they don’t have the work experience the employer can find or assist with getting them a mentor. But at the same time, employers should invest in their employees so if they hire someone that they see tons of potential in, then go ahead have someone that can help push them to be better.

2.) What are you most passionate about in your area of study? What drives your passion?
I am most passionate about being able to be creative but also to help people. I live o make a difference. I feel that everything you do in life should be done with a purpose. So I would love to be able to use my creative ability to help enhance people’s lives. What drives my passion is seeing that I have done something that has either helped someone be better or feel better. It seems minute at first because people don’t see who little things can make a difference. I may go to a design and art school but if my goal was not to help anyone then my time here would have been a waste. My degree will allow me to do what I love to do but opens the doors to many more opportunities to help someone else

  7. I believe an internship is one of the most important parts of the college routine. Not only do you gain experience in the real world, an internship potentially gets your foot in the door. Getting your foot in the door can be one of the biggest challenges in the young professional’s life. A successful internship also can better your networking skills.

Although my feelings are positive towards an internship, I feel very strongly about the efficiency of the internship. In my opinion, I think the school should collaborate more with companies to help the students land an educational and productive internship. I personally did not have a successful internship; I also take the majority of the blame for it. Commercial photography has been my main focus during the past year or so and I picked a wedding photographer internship. I was running out of time and I didn’t feel I had many other options due to where I am located in Indiana. I believe the internship was unsuccessful for 3 reasons. One, my interning photographer was on her own and running a sole proprietorship. Two, the portrait and wedding business hasn’t been what my focus was geared towards. Three, any connections my photographer had was simply competition. It’s important that you decide on an internship that has space for you to move up, a large network base, and is what you want to do.

I am most passionate about fabricating a moment. I relish the process of creation and production. The camera, lighting, postproduction and subject matter are all tools – with these tools, I am most passionate about the magic you can engineer.

I enjoy the initial design process of a project. It gives me an excuse to saturate my mind with creativity. What do you see? What do you want to happen? How can you make this happen? It’s entrancing to fashion a well thought out plan and watching your work come to life.

    My anticipation fuels my motivation.

  8. I think that it is very important for students to go into an internship. Use students need to have experience and know how things are done in a company. Just because you may have a job in one kind of field doesn't mean that all jobs are the same. When you are in an internship I think that you should have a mentor. I think you should because when you are an intern you don't know your way around in the company, and they should show you how the company does work, and what they want you to do, and how they want you to do it.

My passion in graphic design is designing for rustic companies, like John Deere, Browning, and such. I feel that not everyone is in to rustic things like I am. I am a country girl and I know a lot about theses companies. I also wear a lot of their clothing. I would love to work for one of theses companies, I think it would be very fun, and I would do very well. I also would feel very comfortable about designing for them, too.

  9. Yes I do believe that it is crucial for people to do an internship. Internships provide first hand experience in the industry w/ out the responsibility of owning your own business.

I think it should be a mixture of both on the mentors. Both should be evaluating the talent coming through to see that the necessary skills for the position are met.

I am most passionate about the field of fashion and beauty. The creativity that comes with this style of work is extremely phenomenal. I find myself most motivated by the challenge that comes with lighting a set.

  10. 1.) Do you feel that it is important for everyone entering your career to participate in an internship? Should companies provide mentors for new employees or should new workers seek out their own mentors?

I don't think its absolutely essential that everyone entering the fashion industry should do an internship. But i think if they don't seek one out, it'll be hard to find a mentor. In the fashion industry your internship acts as your mentor because the industry is so cut throat, companies will not likely provide mentors to new employees.

2.) What are you most passionate about in your area of study? What drives your passion?

I am most passionate about the over all creativity of my area of study. I want to always be able to make ideas and concepts that are cute and that will inspire people. I don't think I could go to a job every day where I wasn't inspired to just create. I would become board and probably switch from job to job. I want to be able to make people think more creatively, give them more ideas, and make them feel more confident.

My passion about graphic design is designing something that can help a company stand out from other companies. Wanting to make the customer want to go there. Designing a brand is so important, because if your business doesn't stand out, you will not go far.

  12. I feel internships are very important because it helps us as students get our foot in the door when it comes to entering our industry. Companies should help and give out a mentor to a new employee. One that the company knows will give their time and effort into helping the new employee.

I am passionate about the business side of fashion and retail management. I enjoy the visuals and management aspects of my degree and can't wait to start my career. I feel that visuals will let me be the creative person I am and management will let me be the business pro I aim to be.
